Essentially overnight, my toshiba laptop won't be in motion online - wirelessly or plugged in. We hold two laptops in the house - one is working without blemish. Mine shows that I am online but when I use internet explorer - it shows the error page.
I am running windows xp and norton 360. Norton briefly showed I have a virus but haven't been competent to sort that out.
Reading through responses their seems to be a run of laptaps doing matching thing.
Answer:
Yup. Probably infected.
Safe mode scan w/ norton/spysweeper is my suggested solution.
reboot the system into majority mode, if you still can't connect to internet, your winsock drivers are probably damaged (very common).
WinsockXPfix is a util you can download that will repair your drivers, or you can use the integrated tools (xp sp2 only) - at command prompt type 'netsh winsock reset' (no quotes) and follow the directions to reboot your system.
Best of nouns.
yes you have a virus on it, and it is not letting You receive online, only the bot, you are presently the proud owner of a herded bot zombie computer, run the wireless card out of it, reboot it into safe mode, afterwards run the nortons and spysweeper!
