i own a compaq presario 1200, kinda old, whenever i try to install xp, it shuts down after formating. i've changed the processor, the complex disk and the rams... i dont know whats wrong... yes, i plug it surrounded by to the power so, the battery aint the problem i guess.
Answer:
Edit: I looked up the specs for the Presario 1200 - assuming you own the AMD model, unless you gave it a better processor and at tiniest 256MB RAM, your laptop can't handle XP. Sorry to break it to you. If you hold the PIII model, it would be good adequate once upgraded to 256MB RAM.
If it is up to spec, then it's probable a motherboard issue, or something to do with a shabby power jack (a common issue beside the 1200 series).
Hope this helps!
Try completely removing the battery-operated, and just running it rotten the wall power.
Your laptop's motherboard may not work with Windows Xp. Either that or your graphics card isn't honest enough for XP so your laptop doesen't know what to do. See if your video card, CPU, knotty disk space and RAM meet XP's minimum requirements.
