Laptop configuration interview?

I work from my home and inevitability to purchase a laptop, primarily to replace my desktop. I think I would prefer a 17 peak due to my using it daily and for extended period, plus I will be using it for presentations.



I have be looking at the dell selection base on so many those whom have recommended them (my desktop is a dell).



But the question I have are really centered around configuration, such as the difference between the 9400 and the 1705, XP versus Vista Home/Office Basic, Premium, Ultimate, 120/160 +MB, and adjectives of the other elements one needs to opt when configuring such a contraption. Help!

Due to my job, i purchase a Dell 9400. and it run great. i recommended XP pro w/sp2 for work. Vista is still unsullied.
