I own recently tested Kubuntu on my laptop as I will be switching from Windows to Kubuntu any time soon. I used the live disc to test out the OS so I could see if any of the drivers needed sorting out.
The lone driver that had any problems be the driver for the wireless LAN adapter, so a Kubuntu restricted driver was used. The actual wireless LAN works fine and I could connect to the router.
The with the sole purpose thing that doesn't work is the button to disengage the wireless LAN. My quiz is: does the driver for the wireless LAN in a laptop also control the activation button on the front?

on run, type services.msc
new windowpane open and find wireless nouns (should be on bottom part of the window)
check if it is running, save, click on the left side connect of start service
go into CONTROL PANEL
Got to NETWORK CONNECTIONS
heck on the Wireless card -- Not the NIC card
It should be Connection 2
Click properties.
Make sure the little check box - allow window to manage connections...(unless you enjoy somethign like framework magic you might be using)
you can VIEW WIRELESS CONNECTIONS and run from there (if you enjoy a router thats broadcasting your SSID)
If not go to the advanced connections maunually do it.
its the ending option on properties.
If youre grating is protected then you simply put in your info, and you should connect automatically.
Restart, and youre good to turn.

Laptop using 98se?

If your settings cannot be set sophisticated I would sugest checking your video card manufacter and update your video driver from your website. Or you may need to upgrade your video hardware (for a better graphics card). Keep your video drivers updated.

i play a audition and to press some of the arrows i have need of to use the numpad but i have a laptop so i dont' really enjoy one..i DO have a knob that says scroll and at the bottom of the word ((but on like peas in a pod button)) it says num lk surrounded by a rectangle. i keep pressing it but the street light above the key won't pale up.
does anyone know how to activate the numpad?

Is it possible to upgrade from an Intel Celeron processor to an AMD Athlon 64 (X2 or not, I dont care) on a Compaq Presario 2500?

You can't coppers cpu types (intel to AMD or AMD to intel) - even on desktop systems (atleast not on currently designed systems).
You may be able to upgrade to any a slightly faster celeron, or a standard Intel cpu (same pin packages only).
Some boards will support different voltage cpus as well, but if you exchange to another voltage cpu, you can have overheating issues. Not other, but has be known to take place.
What I would do is pull the model/part number of the laptop, research other sub-models (model variation of the same nonspecific model) and the cpu options they come with.
You may find a 25XX model that have a faster cpu.
A hint... find a catalogue of models similar to yours, download the most current bios's for each model and compare the bios programs. The ones that are compatible use identical motherboards. ;)
BTW: You would benefit from upgrading the bios to the most current release to amend your chances of the motherboard properly ID'ing any tentative CPU.
If you can replace the celeron with a standard Intel CPU of like peas in a pod speed, you will see an improvement. I would do that as a minimum.
